Alex Warner NEBOSH National Diploma
We sit down with Alex Warner who studied the NEBOSH Diploma with Astutis. We ask Alex about her learning experience and the changes in her life since she passed her qualification.
Course
Alex is Regional Safety Manager for the North and Scotland, at JLL, a financial and professional services firm specialising in real estate services and investment management. When she started at JLL, six years ago, it was part of the agreement that she would complete the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. In previous roles studying the NEBOSH Diploma had been discussed but funding was not available and self-financing was not an option.
Having looked online, Alex chose Astutis because the Warrington venue was an ideal location. She preferred classroom-based learning and JLL was happy to support this learning method for Alex recognising the company gains of a staff member obtaining this qualification and the further benefit to their clients.
The learning experience
Fortunately Alex was in a small class which enabled her to sometimes benefit from one-to-one tuition. The variety of tutors with their broad skills-base, experience, background and knowledge in the specific subject areas was a distinct advantage. Alex remarked:
“The outside support and guidance was brilliant; nothing was ever too much trouble for the tutors.”
Impact of completing the NEBOSH Diploma
Alex has recognised significant benefits since completing the course commenting:
“It has given me greater knowledge and more confidence in my job role. It has also been noted in my place of work how much I have developed in the last 18 months. This has further developed my skills in ensuring a sustainable health and safety culture within my company for existing and future clients”.
Future plans
As well as completing her NEBOSH Diploma, Alex has recently completed the IEMA Associate Certificate with Astutis to increase her environmental knowledge. However, at this stage in her career she is planning to take the concepts and skills she has learnt and put them into practice in work at JLL. She has also been enrolled internally on an Associate Directors Leadership program and is now involved in promoting the women’s networking group.
There is certainly plenty going on for Alex although she does plan on taking a well-deserved break in the near future but will still be looking to further develop her skills and knowledge.
